Media Portfolio project set and lighting

 Set Design

Setting Present day post injury

  • A outdoor basketball gym- mostly empty
  • Score Boards blinking- stuck at the 10 sec, mirroring his flashbacks trauma
  • Benches visible in the background, but out of focus his world is centered in the hoop
  • Dust floating in the air, visible under the light beams, adding texture to the scene
Setting Flashback scene pre injury scene
  • Fully lit Gymnasium
  • Crowd in the bleachers, but slightly blurred to keep focus on Mateo perspective
  • Shiny freshly painted court, contrasting with the scuffed one in the present day scene
  • Scoreboard actively counting down, fully of energy and motion
Lighting Design
Present day
  • Single overhead light focusing on Mateo-isolating him
  • Deep shadows on the floor- adding a sense of weight and pressure
  • Slight flickering from the scoreboard light -subtle visual cue that time and past failures hunt him
Flashback
  • Even, natural light throughout the gym- war and energetic
  • Bright scoreboard glowing- reinforces the excitement and stakes
  • Golden hue inn the lighting- symbolizes nostalgia, the way we remember the past as better that it was
By using this different set and lighting, I can be able to create a emotional contrast between Mateo past glory and present struggles, visually reinforcing his character journey

Media Portfolio Project One Media theory

One media theory I would like to implement into my project would have to be the Reception Theory. This theory emphasizes how audiences interpret media texts differently based on their personal experiences, background, and social context.

A way to internet it

Dominant Reading - The audience see the main character as an underdog who keeps pushing through challenges by working hard and never giving up.

Film opening example:

A young athlete is training alone in the early morning, pushing through exhaustion, while a voice over (don't know yet who it well be) emphasizes the sacrifices needed for success.

Media Portfolio Project Film research

Ford vs Ferrari

This Movie is based on a true story about the competition between Ford and Ferrari in the 1966 Le Mans race. It has a lot of exciting racing scene, but it also shows the behind the scene drama with big companies and personal goals. The friendship between the main character, driver Ken Miles and designer Carroll Shelby, makes the story more emotional and interesting, so it's not just about racing.

Opening Visuals

The film begins with a voiceover from Carroll Shelby, reflecting on what it means to race at Le Mans and the limits of human endurance.

Right away, the audience is thrown into exciting world of racing, with loud engines, bright headlines shining in the dark, and the thrill of a race that lasts all day and night.

Set the tone- The film isn't just about racing; it's about pushing limits, both physically and mechanically

Character Development- We immediately see Shelby as a talented but human racer, making his later role as a mentor to Ken Miles

Researching about this film has help me understand how to character develop and has help me understand how to intergret this into my project

Media Portfolio Project Two Possible Genre

Two Possible genre I was thinking of doing is Sports & Drama.

Genre 1 Sport

The sport genre is all about athletes and their competitive journeys, whether it's training or just them trying to get better. It's usually about them pushing through though time, working as a team, and never giving up.  Stories like this can be emotional or super inspiring because how they us the physical challenges in the sport with personal struggles.

Some elements I have research I might implement into my project are

Underdog Story- focus on an underdog rising to victory

Training Montages- hard work and dedication required to succeed

Genre 2 Drama

Drama is all about telling emotional stories and really diving into the characters lives. It usually deals with things like relationships and people trying to figure out who they are. Drama is like watching or reading about real life struggles and growth but with more interest.

Some elements I have research I might implement into my project are

Realism- focusing on real-life situations trow hard times

Pacing- it can be slow or fast paces compared to acton genre

Media Portfolio Project Approach

For the up coming weeks I will be bloging about my portfolio project. Our teacher gave us for our first tasks to write about the approach/ initial plans I have for the project.

Once I heard of the portfolio project I was excited and started brain story on what I wanted to do and how to attack just a big project. I also wanted to do something with sport. So when I started think on what to do I got some inspiration from the Apple TV show Swagger. I was planing to doing like a game winning point with some flashback shots of character training for that specific moment the a shot back to the present of him missing that game winning shot and him getting backlash of his not being able to stand up for his team when they need hi the most and him not being a good player. I was reasrching/watching the show learning on what type of shots to uses and what type of editing I need to use for this big idea. Once I get an Idea I will start my story board and go from there.

The second way I have decided to approach this project was first do some research on how film opening are layed out and how they are made. Ones I have a general idea of what I want to do I start creating a story and then make a story board. When creating the story I would start getting a picture of what type of shots that will help develop the story. Also when creating the story board I would also be working on creating the characters backgrounds. From there I will see what next to do.

Media Portfolio Project CCR Question 1

Research When Making my two minute opening scene, I wanted to flow certain film conventions while also adding my on twist. I also thought a...
