Media Portfolio Project Approach

  For the up coming weeks I will be bloging about my portfolio project. Our teacher gave us for our first tasks to write about the approach/ initial plans I have for the project.

Once I heard of the portfolio project I was excited and started brain story on what I wanted to do and how to attack just a big project. I also wanted to do something with sport. So when I started think on what to do I got some inspiration from the Apple TV show Swagger. I was planing to doing like a game winning point with some flashback shots of character training for that specific moment the a shot back to the present of him missing that game winning shot and him getting backlash of his not being able to stand up for his team when they need hi the most and him not being a good player. I was reasrching/watching the show learning on what type of shots to uses and what type of editing I need to use for this big idea. Once I get an Idea I will start my story board and go from there.

The second way I have decided to approach this project was first do some research on how film opening are layed out and how they are made. Ones I have a general idea of what I want to do I start creating a story and then make a story board. When creating the story I would start getting a picture of what type of shots that will help develop the story. Also when creating the story board I would also be working on creating the characters backgrounds. From there I will see what next to do.

Music Marketing #1

 One of the first thing we did to plan/ do research was read the instructions in the modules. One's We finish reading the instructions we did research on different music production companies. While we where looking through the different music production companies we where looking for country artist and brief history about that music production. Once we look through the different music production companies we selected Universal Music group and River House Artists. With this two companies we picked Shania Twain, Luke Bryan from Universal Music Group and Luke Combs, Nate Smith from River House Artists. When we finish picking our artists we got to looking through the artists music history. Once we were done finding out about our artists we started planing for the Music Marketing project. With all the research we have found we started getting ideas for our "makeup artists". We were given different types of country music and we had to pick one. Once we picked one we started thinking about if we where going to have a band or a single artists and started brainstorm about different logs/names for the artists/band. And We started making up a story for the artist/band and also started brainstorming on different ways we where going to do the storyboard for the music video and how we where going to film it. And that where we are now finishing making the music video and editing it.

Genre Research Blog

Typical target audience for a genre like (Horror) can be dedicated fans who often engage with horror like huntedhouse, movies or specialzed communities. Genre convention are used to immerse the audience in the world of horror and create an intense experience. Institutional conventions are strategies used to create successful horror films. By connecting the viewer with the film.

 Genre: Horror

 Genre conventions-content survival, atmosphere, and charater type. This content is used to provoke strong emotional reactions from the audiences. Genre conventions – production techniques lighting, movement/camera angle, sound, and editing techniques. This production techniques can be used to help change the view emotions of the viewers. Most horror films are marketed by teaser trailers, viral trends marketing, posters,and collaboration with streaming services. This marketing techniques are mentent to create suspense to create a sense of mystery to engage with the viewers.

The movie "The Shining" embodies this genre through its focus on psychological and supernatural elements and mastering the unique filmmaking techniques.

The movie "Halloween" embodies the genre through it tension, atmosphere, and slasher elements. The director John Carpenter uses techniques in the film that had an impact making it a classic horror film.

Representation Blog

 The movie "Cars" creates various aspects of society, through its characters and storyline. By using these two major characters called Lightning McQueen and Mater shapes the viewers representations of communities and individual personalities.

Lightning McQueen is a person who's personality is all about his desire to win. In the media he stands as an individual whose whole life revolves on his achievement. This film uses a lot of thrilling camera angles during the race scenes. Similar to the "Stereotype" in the class notes, Lightning McQueen is just like a simplified character type whose whole life is based on the media and how it emphasizes certain traits like his success.

Mater a rusty and unassuming tow truck, who represents genuineness and community. However, Mate's changes during the movie. We went from a comedic figure to someone who deeply values loyalty and friendship. This shift was caused by other's because Mater was presented as being different from lightning McQueen but by the end we are showen that even someone from less mature background holds a bigger value.

Sound Project Blog

 During this assignment we learned how sound or music can be a bigger part of a flim or project then what people think. The objective of the project was to make a story about something you like by just using sounds. We approach this project by just think about different areas or activities that make alot of noise. During our brainstorming we talk about different ideas but we came up with a 2 min warning football game for a touchdown wins the game. How we outlined our help us understand what kind of sounds we needed to get. We sleped the different type of work we had to do so my partner was the one who edited and I got the work of doing the foley part. One thing that I was trying to get better in this project was the planning . One thing want to improve on is the execution of the project. I want it to be like the plan and not have the finish project look like the plan.

OWF Blog

 Basic summary of direction- We were given a word and we had to make a 1-1:30 min video about that word without using any dialogue.

What we did during the brainstorm was first looking up the meaning of the word and understanding what it means and coming up with ideas. Ones we came up with an idea with started doing our storyboard. Will doing the storyboard we were able to get an idea of how our story was going to be like. The editing resource I used was Adobe Acrobat.

One thing I would like to improve and work on for next time would be the editing. I would like to improve on my editing because it was my first time editing and was a little lost will editing but got the hand of it.
