Media Portfolio Project Final Reflection

Final Thought about the Portfolio Project:

Looking back, I learned a lot from this project. I didn't realize how much work goes into making even a short film. From planning to filming to editing, every step took more effort than I expected.

One of the biggest things I improved on was using technology. I got better at filming, editing, and making sure everything looked and sounded right. Editing was tricky at first, but after watching tutorials and practicing, I figured it out.

I also learned a lot about storytelling. I wanted the audience to connect with Mateo's journey, so I focused on making his emotions feel real thought lighting, music, and camera angles.

Time management was another challenge. Filming and editing took longer than I thought, and things didn't always go as planned. But I found Ways to fix problems and keep going.

Overall, this project helped me improve my skills and creativity. if I had more time, I'd refine a few things, but I'm around of what I created and excited to work on more projects in the future.

Media portfolio Project CCR Post Production

Step 1: Checking My Slides

  • Once I had all my slides done, I went through them a few times to see if they made sense. I fixed any spelling mistakes, made sure the pictures weren't blurry, and checked that the text was easy to read. I also kept the slides simple too much text would make it boring, and I didn't want people just reading off the screen instead of listening to me
Step 2: Adjusting the Timing
  • I wanted my presentation to flow well, so I practiced to make sure I wasn't rushing or taking too long. At first, I realized I was either taking too fast or getting stuck on certain parts. I fixed this by timing myself while going through it a few times, so I knew exactly how long each slide should take.
Step 3: Improving My Delivery
  • Just like editing a film to make it more engaging, I wanted my presentation to be interesting to listen to. I practiced speaking clearly and making eye contact instead of just staring at my slides. I also added a few pauses where I knew I needed to slow down so I wouldn't just ramble through everything.
Step 4: Doing a Final Run-Through
  • Before actually presenting, I did a final run through in front of a friend. This helped me see if anything still felt awkward or if I needed to change the way I explained certain parts. Getting feedback helped me make small improvements that made a big difference.
Post production isn't just for films it's also important for presentations. Taking the time to check my slides, practice my timing, and improve my delivery made my final presentation way better. If I had just thrown everything together and presented without reviewing it, I probably would have made a lot more mistakes.
In the end, I'm glad I put in the extra effort because it helped me feel more confident when I actually gave the presentation. If I ever do another one, I'll definitely use what I learned to make it even better.

Media Portfolio Project Production CCR

Step 1: Figuring Out What to Talk About
  • First, I had to decide what to actually put in the presentation \. Since my project used a bunch of different technology, I split into three parts: software, hardware, and online tools. I also wanted to talk about some of the problems I ran into and how I fixed them, so it. wasn't just a list of stuff I used.
Step 2: Making the Slides
  • I wanted my slides to look good but not be too complicated. I used PowerPoint to make them because it has nice templates that made things easier. I kept the words short so I wouldn't just read off the screen and added a few pictures, like a camera, and an editing timeline, to make it more interesting.
Step 3: Writing What I Was Gonna Say
  • I didn't want to just stand up there and freeze, so I wrote a little script to help me out. I made sure it sounded natural like how I actually talk so it wouldn't be too boring. I also added some stuff about my own experience, like the struggles I had with editing and shaky footage, to make it more real.
Step 4: Practicing So I Didn't Mess up
  • Once my slides and script were ready, I practiced a few times. The first couple of times, I kept messing up or forgetting what to say, but after a few tries, it got easier. I also timed myself so I wouldn't talk too fast or take forever to finish.
Honestly, making this presentation helped me realize how much I actually learned during the film project. At first, I didn't think about how much tech was involved, but after breaking it all down, I saw how important it was. Overall, I think my presentation turned out pretty good, and I hope my classmates like it too.
If I could do it again, I'd probably try to add some video clips or a live demo instead of just using slides. but for my first try, I think it went alright.

Media portfolio Project Group Meeting Summary

During this day we were split into 4 different groups to discuss on how our projects were turning out and what ideas we had for our CCR's. One of the first things we did was introduce ourself and want our last names were so we could go over you blog post about your project. Ones we went through each others blog post we all ask each other if they had any raw footage they wanted to show us and ask if it was turning out good.  One by one we showed our footage and I was so surprised on my classmates work. Even tho they had more experience then me on film and editing I was motivated on making my project better. Even tho I thought I wouldn't be able to do a good job they gave me the motivation on making this project standout from my proviso projects. Ones we finished talking about our project and CCR's idea we went and Blog about our CCR's Research. We didn't really have to many ideas on what to do for our CCR's

Media Portfoilio Project CCR #4

CCR question #4

How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

For this project, I used a bunch of different technology, like software, cameras, and online tools, to help put everything together. Each part of making the film planning, filming, and editing needed different tech, and I learned a lot along the way

Software:

Editing was a big deal for this project. I used Adobe Premiere Pro to cut scenes, add transitions, and fix the colors so everything looked better. I also worked with the audio editing software to make sure the sound was clear and that the music and dialogue matched up. Editing took a lot of time, but it made the film look way more better.

Online tools:

The internet was super helpful for this project. I used YouTube to watch editing tutorials, looked at other short films for inspiration, and found royalty- free music online to use in the background. Blogger help keep everthing organized, and social media like TikTok and Instagram was great for researching trends and figuring out how to promote the film

Media Portfoilio Project CCR #3 Research

CCR question #3

How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

How My Production skills developed throughout this project

When I started this project, I had basic understanding of filmmaking, but throughout the process, I learned a lot about planning, filming, and editing. Each step of making the opening scene helped me improve different production skills.

In the beginning, pre-production was all about getting organized- writing the script, making a shot list, and figuring out costumes and props. I realized how important it is to plan everything out before filming. Storyboarding really helped me picture how I wanted the scenes to look, and I also learned some cool filming techniques by doing research.

During filming, I got better at using the camera, framing shots, and playing around with different angles to make scenes look more interesting. I also figured out that lighting is a big deal some shots didn't turn out how I expected, but after messing around with different lighting setups, I saw how much it can change the mood of a scene.

Editing was probably where I improved the most. Cutting scenes together, adding sound effects, and using transitions made everything look smoother. At first, editing was super frustrating, but after practicing, it got easier, and I actually had fun with it.

Media Portfoilio Project CCR #2 Research

CCR Questions 2

How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?

How my film Connects With the Audience and how its Distributed

My film grabs people's attention because it tells a story that a lot of people people can relate to-goting through a tough time and trying to come back stronger. Even if you're not an athlete, you get what it feels like to struggle with something and push through it. Mateo's journey of dealing with self-doubt and working hard to prove himself makes people root for him. The way I showed his emotions, flashbacks, and training scenes really helps the audience connect with him.

I have also used a cool filming techniques to make it even more engaging. Close-Ups show his emotions up close, slow- motion makes big moments feel more intense, and the music builds the mood. All of this makes the audience feel like they're right there with Mateo as he fights to make a comeback.

How it would be Distributed

If this was a real film, I would put t online first. TikTok and YouTube would be perfect for posting clips to get people interested. Then I would try to get it on streaming platforms like Netflix or Amazon Prime since sports movies do really well there. Another way to get attention would be would be entering film festivals. If my film got noticed at festivals, it could get picked up by a bigger platform. That would help even more people see it.

Media Portfolio Project CCR Question 1

 Research

  • When Making my two minute opening scene, I wanted to flow certain film conventions while also adding my on twist. I also thought about how my story represents real struggles that athletes face, especially young basketball players dealing with pressure and setbacks.

Challenging Conventions
  • While I followed some traditional sports movie ideas, I also challenged certain conventions. A lot of sport films focus on big games or final moments, but my scene is more personal, showing the struggle behind the scene. Instead of a coach or teammates helping Mateo, I made him to be completely alone in the gym. This highlights his struggles rather than relying on outside motivation, which is different from typical underdog sport movies.
  • Another way the challenged conventions was through my color choices. Instead on the bright color, I instead used darker tone and lighting to emphasize Mateo's struggles. This makes my story feel more emotional and personal rather than just focusing on the action of the game.
Representing Social groups and issues
  • My film is about a young athletes, especially those who get injured and start doubting themselves. A lot go high school players feel pressure to be great, and end up getting hurt cause of all the pressure they go through, and getting hurt can make them think their dreams are over. By showing Mateo's frustration and determination, I can show what student athletes go through mentally and emotionally.
  • I focus o feeling alone and working hard to come back. Mateo is like a lot of athletes who feel like they have to prove themselves again after a setback. His time in the empty gym is something many players understand working hard when on ones is watching, trying to get back to where they used to be.

Media Portfolio Project Post-Production

The second part of my Post-Production editing

Adding Sound effects and Music

  • Sound made a huge difference. I added sound effects like the basketball bouncing, Mateo's breathing, and even the squeaks of his shoes on the floor.

Adding Flashbacks and Transitions
  • Since my scene includes flashbacks, we had to make sure they were clear. I used a slight Blur effect and changed the color slightly so show the difference between past and present. Smooth transition also helped make everything flow better
Editing took a lot of time, but it was worth it. Seeing all the pieces come together and watching the story unfold was amazing feeling. There is still work to be done but this part of my editing has been amazing.

Media Portfoilio Project Post Production Editing

 Post-Production

  • This is where all of it comes together. After filming, I had a bunch of clips, but they didn't feel like a real scene yet. That where post production editing comes in, it help me turn my raw footage into a polished scene.
Organizing the Footage
  • The first step was going through all my clips and choosing the best ones. Some takes had small mistakes, like weird lighting, so I had to pick the cleanest ones. Will I was organizing my clips I found different ideas on how I can improve my story by film other clips that will develop the story better and even use different sounds.
Cutting and Arranging the Clips
  • I used caput to trim and arrange my clips in the right sequence. This step was really important because it controlled how the story flowed. I made sure the transitions between Mateo's present day train and his flashbacks felt smooth and natural.

Media Portfoilio project Shooting Process

Shooting Process

  • During filming my basketball opening scene was a really cool experience,, but it also took a lot more work then I expected. There were so many things to think about, from setting up the shots to making sure everything looked and felt real.
Planning the Shots
  • Before I even started to film I had to play everything out. I made a storyboard that showed everthing important part of the film opening, like Mateo practicing alone in the gym and the flashbacks to his championship game. This help me understand exactly what shots I needed to focus on instead of going in blind.

Setting up the location
  • I was able to film in a local outdoor basketball court, which was perfect for the scene. I had to figure to the best place for my camera men to shot, for the shots to look great.
Filming the scene
  • This part took a bit longer than I expected. I had to do multiple takes of each shot to make sure everything looked good. Some shots, like close ups of Mateo's face expressions, were easier, but actions shot like him dribbling and shooting were harder because I had to time everything just right .

Media Portfolio Project Editing techniques

 Editing Techniques

5 Different Editing techniques that I will try to implement into my project

Cross-Cutting

  • Switching between Mateo training alone and flashbacks to the championship game shows how much things have changed for him. It helps the audience see both his past confidence and his current struggles at the same time, making the scene more emotional.

Slow Motion For Emotional Depth
  • Slow motion can emphasize crucial moments, such as Mateo reliving his fall or taking a deep breath before attempting a shot. This technique heighten tension and allows the audience to feel the weight of the moment.

Match Cuts
  • Match cuts help visually connect past and present moments, making the transition seamless. For instance, close-up of Mateo's hands gripping the basketball in the present can match cut to a similar shot from the championship game, highlighting his internal struggle and past success.
Fade to Black for reflection
  • A fade to black at key moment, such as when Mateo remembers his injury, can create a dramatic pause. This allows the audience to absorb the emotions of the scene before moving forward.
POV Shots
  • Using POV shot can be used to show the emotion Mateo is going through. For example when Mateo is lining up to take a shot and takes a deep breath you can tell his is tryin to come himself down before taking the shot.

Media Portfolio project filming day process

During this week I was supposes to start film but I had a little hiccup. I was planning to start film on earlier today but when I got to the location I was going to film I was told that I couldn't start filming with out permission. When I heard this I started panicking but the guy told me that I could call the owner or manger to ask for permission to film and he gave me there number. As I started texting them and was waiting for a response one of my friends that was helping me film told me he had a place where we could film. When my friend showed my the new locations I was confident we could start filming this week but ask we got to the location it was to late cause we had to film in an outside court then inside court. But when we thought we were done for the day we got a text back that we could film in our original location but he said we had to wait until next weekend. I was feeling ok about waiting a whole other week to start filming but I was ok with it because it ment I was able to make changes or improve my scripts.
